About Pharaoh

Contrary to popular belief, or the vintage Saturday Night Live skit featuring Steve Martin, King Tut was not "born in Arizona, moved to Babylonia in a condo made of stone-a". Instead, the Boy King was one of the most famous of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Pharaohs, or kings, ruled the Upper and Lower Kingdoms of Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. Buried in elaborate tombs known as pyramids, they were believed to be human incarnations of gods and these pyramids would help to ensure their immortality.

Some of the most famous of all pharaohs include Tutankhamen; Akhenaten (the founder of the first monotheistic religion of Egypt); Ramses I and II; and Queen Hatshepsut, the first female pharaoh who sometimes dressed as a man.

Dressing up as a Pharaoh

Are you a humble ruler or a bold, flashy pharaoh? There is an Egyptian costume to suit your reign in your size waiting! Don't sit in de Nile any longer and adorn yourself in some Egyptian finery!

One of the most recognizable -- thanks to the discovery of his largely intact tomb in the 1920s -- of the ancient Pharaohs is King Tut with his regal blue and gold ensembles. Several costumes of King Tut are available or you can construct your own with ornate blue and gold headdreses, belts, and Egyptian collars to recreate the look of the Boy King.

If you wish for a more simple Pharaoh costume, several outfits featuring simple black or white shifts (similar to the look worn by Yul Brynner in "The Ten Commandments" movie when he portrayed Rameses) decked with a gold collar, wristlets, belt and regal Egyptian headdress are also an excellent choice.
