About Peter Criss
Born in Brooklyn, NY as George Peter John Criscuola, Kiss' original drummer and Cat Man shortened it up to Peter Criss, the stage name he's been known as since 1974. His makeup design was that of a cat, complete with whiskers drawn on in Kiss's black-and-white kabuki-like makeup, accented with green around his eyes and a red mouth. Criss was a rarity among drummers in that he sang. His raspy voice was similar to a Rod Stewart type of sound and Criss performed lead vocals on such Kiss classics as "Black Diamond," "Hard Luck Woman," and one of the band's biggest hits, the ballad "Beth." Criss left the band in 1982 and was replaced by Eric Carr on drums.
