The name of an epic Mel Gibson film and also the name for New England's football team, a Patriot is someone with not only a great love for their country, but a person of unconditional bravery. The term patriot is most commonly applied to soldiers serving on the side of the 13 colonies during the Revolutionary War for Independence in 1776. Although "patriot" could accurately describe such promient American figures like General George Washington who would later become the first United States President, and statesman Ben Franklin, other people like seamstress Betsey Ross who crafted the American flag and Paul Revere whose famous midnight ride alerted American troops that "The British are coming!"

Dressing up as a Patriot
