About Passover
A Jewish holiday that occurs during the months of March or April, usually coinciding around the Christian holiday of Easter, Passover commemorates the Jewish Exodus from Egypt led by the prophet Moses in search of Israel. The name "Passover" comes from the tenth Biblical plague inflicted upon the Egyptians whose pharaoh Rameses II refused to release the Israelites from slavery. The plague involved the Angel of Death descending to kill the firstborn of every Egyptian household. The Jews were instructed by Moses to smear lamb's blood over their doorposts so that the angel would know to "pass over" the homes of the faithful and spare the Israelites from death visiting their own firstborn. In their haste to leave Egypt, the Jews ate unleavened bread. The tradition is continued today with faithful Jews eating matzoh during the Passover holiday in observance.
Dressing up for Passover
Celebrate Passover with costumes that will help you create a convincing re-enactment for the holiday with a play. Re-do the "Ten Commandments" with costumes of Moses and his rival and former adopted brother, Rameses. The Moses costume comes with a grey wig and beard along with a striped, longsleeved robe with a rope belt. The stern Pharaoh Rameses costume comes with an Egyptian headpiece and a long robe with a golden Egyptian collar and matching belt.
Accessorize either costume with sandals and a staff.
Or, dress as a dark angel of death to create one of the more ominous aspects of the Passover story.
