About Orca

The Orca is also known as "The Killer Whale." The large, black and white creature with its distinctive solid patterns on its flesh is actually an aquatic mammal and not a fish. It is a member of the dolphin family. While it doesn't have a reputation for killing humans, much like the Great White Shark, the Orca preys upon smaller fish and other marine mammals such as seals, sea lions, and walruses. Perhaps the most famous orca is Sea World's Shamu who performs daily. (There is more than one Shamu, however, at each of the theme parks, with several orcas taking on performance duties.) As an added bit of trivia, Orca is also the name of Captain Quint's boat in the film, Jaws, on which the three main human characters attempt to track the shark.
