Make an Oliver costume

This costume is easy to make, and is eco-friendly too! If you haven't got a man around whose wardrobe you can rummage through, then a trip to a charity shop/thrift store/jumble sale will provide you with everything you need! Choose small adult size clothes for children - the baggy clothes add to the scruffy urchin look! Choose dull shades of beige, brown and grey that suggest 'just off the ... read more »
Make an Artful Dodger costume

Oi oi! A must for cheeky Cockney boys everywhere! Eco-friendly too! HAT: Made from an old pair of jeans, but any stiff abroic will do. Lay these out flat on the floor. Measure the wearer's head, then find that same measurement on the width of a jeans leg, (divided by half when it's measured straight across). Mark a line across, add 1.5cm seam allowance, draw across again and cut. From ... read more »

About Oliver

Oliver can mean two things when it comes to Disney. You have Oliver and Company which is an animated movie from the late 1980’s. It is about a cat who is lost and alone. As an orphan he joins a gang of dogs trying to survive on the streets of New York. During the story Oliver meets a girl named Jenny who rescues him from the streets. The other Oliver is Oliver Twist. Oliver Twist was a book by Charles Dickens which Disney studios turned into a movie for the Wonderful World of Disney on Saturday nights. The film was released in 1997. The plot is about an orphan boy named Oliver. He has a very unpleasant life in a workhouse. At the age of 12 Oliver tries to get more food and that is how he lands on the street from the workhouse. Now he has to travel to survive the streets of London.

Dressing up as Oliver

When most think of the name Oliver, Oliver Twist comes to mind. So we will start with this costume. The Disney Oliver costume has tan pants which will be loose fitting. The pants need to look a little ratty, with sagging pockets, and perhaps even a bit of dirt. The pants will need to be held up by a rope belt. A peasant blouse or shirt of similar style needs to be worn. It should be white, as well as loose fitting. A neckcloth will be added in aged white, with a tan vest over the long sleeve shirt. For the head a knit cap, a bit rounded with a brim should be added. The cap will be black or brown depending on your choice. The shoes should be something just as ratty as the orphan costume, like black boots. Your other costume idea would be from Oliver and Company. In this case you would need a orange and white tabby cat costume. The costume would need a jumpsuit with cat tail and paws. To finish it a hood with cat whiskers, mouth nose, eyes, and ears. Most children’ cat costumes have the hood sit atop the head rather than over the face. You can also create the whiskers and nose with makeup just using cat ears for the head.
