Health care industry professionals and caretakers, the nurse is one of the first you meet at the doctor's office or hospital to tend to your ailment. Throughout history, nurses have played an important role from battlefield nurse Florence Nightengale who pushed for better medical conditions for soldiers to Civil War nurse and founder of the Red Cross, Clara Barton. For every "Angel of the Battlefield" and caring nurse, some other not-so-savory characters have popped up in television and film. One of the most brutal nurses to ever hit the silver screen was the vindictive Nurse Ratched of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." Somewhat of a parody of Nurse Ratched, Nurse Diesel (played by Cloris Leachman) in the Mel Brooks film, "High Anxiety", was into bondage and domination in addition to running the asylum.

Dressing as a Nurse

Take your pick from any number of nurse costumes and styles. Dress in plain scrubs for a more modern nurse look or go with a traditional, plain nurse's costume. For a little bit of a darker touch, there are nurse costumes in black vinyl. Add your own fake blood or syringe prop to give ol' Ratched a run for her money.
