About Nun

A nun is a person who has decided to pledge her life to God. The woman takes special vows for a life of chastity as well as devoting life to bettering others. Mother Theresa is perhaps the most well- known nun of our times. The terms sister or nun can be used when speaking about a women of the cloth. A nun is typically a person of Roman Catholic, Eastern Christian, Anglican, Lutheran, Jain, Buddhist, or Taoist faith. These women choose to leave society to devote a life of prayer in a convent. A nun has a specific outfit they must wear at all times and shun modern objects and things. They cannot own any personal items. There is education for nuns in the church and to start one must be a novice before taking vows to become a nun.

Dressing as a Nun

If you have a costume party to attend you might consider a Nun costume. Priest and Nuns make great costumes if you want to be cloaked in black clothing. The typical costume will be a black robe with rope belt, rosary, and the Nun’s head covering. The head covering is a white drape, with white collar. The costume is generally referred to as a Habit.
