About Nordic

The word Nordic can mean a couple of different things. First it refers to the Nordic Countries like Norway, Sweden and Denmark. It can also refer to a type of people, folklore, and mythology. Nordic is sometimes referred as encompassing North Germanic Languages. Typically in costume associations Nordic will refer to the Vikings. A Viking is a Norse explorer from the Scandinavian countries. They were warriors, merchants and pirates. The Viking are well known for their longships which they used to travel around the world including to places like Constantinople along the Volga River in Russia and to Iceland, Greenland, and Newfoundland. The Vikings are often thought of as tyrants killing anyone who was different that they came into contact with. It is well documented that Nordic people such as the Vikings had great power and influence in Northern Europe. The Viking Age was named for them due to their ability to spread their power. Films have tried to interpret the Vikings, including a more recent adaptation called Pathfinder.

Dressing up as Nordic

Nordic costumes come in both men and women’s styles. You can choose from a plethora of costumes depicting the Scandinavian ancestors. One of the more popular costumes is the Viking with brown pants and brown tunic covered by a short faux fur cape. Arm bands, a sword, and Viking Helmet with leather boots is needed to pull it off. Whenever Vikings are depicted woman are usually not around, as the Viking were warriors. However, they did have woman so the Nordic costumes you find are fitting. For example the Nordic Babe with a tan faux fur and brown faux suede dress is always a hit. The dress is off the shoulder with no sleeves, but faux fur arm bands, and a skirt reaching mid thigh. You will need boot covers and the hat with horns headpiece to complete the look.
