About Napoleon

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French dictator who rose to prominence as a military leader who eventually installed himself as the Emperor of France. In the years following the French Revolution with the death of the monarchy, ending with Louis XVII, the young son of Marie Antoinette, the nation of France found itself on the defensive against other European nations, notably England, who had allied themselves with Austria and Russia. After conquering much of Europe and defeating the threat to France, Napoleon took the throne. Known for his diminutive stature and his historic romance with his wife, the Empress Josephine (whom, although he anulled his marriage to because she failed to produce an heir, he called to on his deathbed in 1821), Napoleon was one of history's most intriguing figures.
