About Musketeer

A Musketeer in the literal sense was an infantry soldier who used a musket during wars. Musketeers were very important to early modern Europe. The tale of the Three Musketeers was not based on infantry soldiers with muskets. Instead the Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas was a story of four men. One wanted to become a Musketeer, but they had been disbanded in France on the Cardinal’s orders. The cardinal wanted to have the Queen for himself, and worked to undermine the king which he saw as weak. He also wanted power- the power of France that is. With intrigue, death, and sword fights the Three Musketeers eventually win out helping the king as they have always done.

Dressing up as Musketeer

Dartagnan, Porthos, Aramis, and Athos are some costume ideas to look at for dressing as a Musketeer. The usual dress for these heroes was plain hose, with a blue and white tunic, and swords. The tunic had a cross symbol on it symbolizing that they were guards for the king. They also had hats typical of the 1800’s, in which a feather would stick out from it. A Queen costume would also be a worthy couples costume idea if you wish to be a Musketeer and save the queen.
