About the Muppet Show

The Muppet Show ran from 1976 to 1981 as the creation of puppeteer Jim Henson. Its format was a variety show mixing human celebrity guest stars -- a different one each week -- interacting with the cast of Muppet regulars in a series of skits and musical numbers. In the middle of the sketches, the behind-the-scenes goings on at the Muppet Theatre with the Muppets putting together their shows and interacting with their guest stars. The remarkable thing about the show was the camraderie between the cast of Henson puppets among each other and the way the humans guest stars made everything feel very real in a surreal atmosphere that delighted adults and children alike.
