About Mortal Kombat

A popular video game franchise by Midway developers, Mortal Kombat was developed for the arcade in 1992 by Ed Boon and John Tobias. A one- or two-person fighting game, Mortal Kombat is known for its graphic fights which involve character-specific fatalities (and later, animalities and babalities as a less-bloody alternative) and moves rooted in actual martial arts with a (bloody) splash of fantastical elements. Done in tournament style, Mortal Kombat features a number of playable characters inhabiting the Earth Realm and Outworld territories who are all fighting for the title of supreme combatant and with each character possessing a different motivation -- some just and some for their own evil ends. Home versions of the game have been released for all major gaming consoles and numerous sequels have been produced with storylines for main characters continuing over time.
