About Minnie Mouse

In 1928 Minnie Mouse first graced our television screens beside Mickey Mouse. Minnie Mouse, or her full name as Minerva “Minnie” Mouse was created by Walt Disney. Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse to replace Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but he soon found that Mickey Mouse could not live on the screen alone. He needed to have a female character. Minnie Mouse was dressed in a typical flapper girl outfit in order to speak with the trends at the time. Walt Disney realized he needed to have a character that would speak to the female set as well as to the male children. Mickey and Minnie Mouse first came on the screen in Plane Crazy in which they are on a date in Mickey’s plane. Minnie has had to battle Mickey’s affections over time to finally rest as a couple in the later cartoon series we see today.

Dressing up as Minnie Mouse

Minnie Mouse has a rather simple costume when you get right down to it. There are definitely costumes for those on a budget such as creating your own or buying one online. For Minnie Mouse you are going to need a flapper dress. This is a rather short dress that usually rests above the knees, with a petticoat of sorts beneath it. For a simpler outfit you can forgo the undergarment and have the skirt. The top of the dress is form fitting with a rounded collar. The sleeves are usually puffed. The shirt and sleeves are a red with white polk-a-dot material. The blouse section is usually black. To get the full mouse you can wear a black leotard with leggings and long sleeves. Most of the Minnie Mouse costumes are going to sell a headband with ears to complete the picture. There are some costumes in which you can have the full mouse head as well. Other character costumes you may wish to wear include Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Pluto.
