About Medieval

Medieval is an adjective that represents the Middle Ages when discussing history. Medieval times are those between the 5th century and 16th century, in which nobility, serfs, and peasants were cast distinctions regarding peoples’ station in life. The Medieval period began after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, though England considers the Middle Ages to start in the 11th century. The end of Medieval times is typically considered the Reformation and Italian Renaissance periods. During the Middle Ages people were becoming more civilized though wars were still fought as a way of life. Urbanization was also very prominent during the later Medieval Age. Many European countries origins in events and trends come from the Medieval period. During the high Middle Ages the Crusades were fought and science and technology began to advance. By the late Middle Ages the Hundred Years’ War and issues with the Church were beginning to appear. Much of the wars were in fact based on religious differences between the Catholic Church, Protestants, and Lutherans.

Dressing up as Medieval

Medieval Costumes will range from the typical King and Queen to options that are more modern such as Altair from Assassin’s Creed. All of the costumes will reflect eight suits of armor or tunic and hose. A Tavern Wench for example will have a short mid- thigh long skirt, with a tight bodice or corset style top, but a Tavern Man would be in a nice tunic and hose, possibly with a vest covering the tunic or peasant blouse. If you wish to have religious distinction, with your costume consider a Crusader. The Crusader Medieval costume provides a red and white tunic with cross on the front, fake chainmail to go underneath, hose, leather shoes, and sword and shield. You could also choose Lady Guinevere and King Arthur for a stately appearance.
