About Medieval Knight

A medieval knight was considered a “gentleman soldier.” The idea is that any knight had a certain etiquette to live by. They were chivalrous, loyal, and looked upon with high regard. To become a knight a soldier first had to train, but more than that they needed to be within a certain class. Peasants could not hope to be knighted even if they had valor on the battle field. A knight was meant to lead. The legend of King Arthur is just one depiction of medieval knights. Fiction has played a huge role in how most of us think of knights, even including the tale of shrek which was a parody on the quintessential class structure. In fiction the knight must slay a dragon to rescue the princess, Shrek takes that idea to a whole new level.

Dressing up as Medieval Knight

Dressing up as a knight takes quite a few articles of clothing- to begin you would need hose and a tunic. The hose would be tight fighting, while the tunic will be looser. The costume will have different colors for the tunic, such as would signify a coat of arms. Over this clothing would go the chain mail, armor breastplate, and metal armor for the legs. Costumes generally are not made of metal, but a cloth material that can resemble the metal. You could also have a face mask and a shield. The helmet usually covers the entire head, as well as the face, with a visor to pull up or down when in a fight. Don’t forget the fake sword or lance. Some medieval knights also had cloaks.
