About Material Girl

One of the songs that made Madonna a household name, "Material Girl" was released early in her career in 1985. The song was so popular that "Material Girl" later became an epithet for Madge herself, despite her numerous reinventions. The name has always stuck and probably always will!

With lyrics extolling the virtues of man candy with gold cards who can provide the best for her, the video for "Material Girl" featured Madonna vamping it up as Marilyn Monroe in the famous pink dress she wore in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."
