About Masquerade

A masquerade is a ball or ceremony in many cultures. We probably think of Mardi Gras and Carnival when we think of Masquerade as this is where most of the costumes have come from. A masquerade is a gathering of many individuals dressed in masks to hide their face and elaborate costumes. The fifteenth century marks the first Masquerade with the beginning of Carnival. The Carnival is in France, Venice, and New Orleans as well as other parts of the world every year. The Venetian Carnival is perhaps the most popular with the balls in the earlier centuries.

Dressing up as Masquerade

You have many choices when it comes to dressing up as Masquerade. You first will need to choose a period for the costume of your choice. You can be a Jester, Casanova, or Phantom of the Opera. The costume starts off with a mask. The mask can be Venetian, Parisian, or another style. You have solid masks as well as plastic masks to choose from. Some of the masks will be on sticks rather than wrapping around the head. Then it is up to you to choose the rest of the costume. You can be in a period renaissance dress like a princess would wear, or perhaps a goddess. You can also be in a tunic and hose with a cape. For those who would like a little creativity you can create your own costumes. To dress as Masquerade you can be a child or adult there are plenty of different sizes and costumes.
