About Mary
Mary was Jesus' mother on Earth, hand picked by God to bear his eartly incarnation and raise him. The young girl was told this by the angel Gabriel about the heavy burden she would bear. At the time, Mary was betrothed to a young carpenter named Joseph, who, after another angelic visit, understood the role he was to be placed in. In the Catholic church, Mary is looked to as the Queen of All Saints, and according to the Bible ascended to Heaven with body and soul intact, escorted to her final destination by angels.
Dressing up as Mary
Every Nativity scene needs Mary! Mary gave birth to her son Jesus in a small stable surrounded by her husband, Joseph and a number of barnyard animals. Dress up in Mary's calming colors of soothing pale blue and white with a costume in sizes to fit adults and little girls. Each costume includes a blue and white robe-styled gown with a piece to go over your head, as traditionally worn by Mary. Wear a pair of lace up sandals for a realistic effect.
