About Martha Washington

The FIRST First Lady of the United States, Martha Washington was the wife of the nation's first President, George Washington. A wealthy widow with two surviving children of her own from her first marriage, Martha Washington met and married General George Washington in 1759. A pillar of support to her husband, Martha Washington stayed with her husband through the bitter winter at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War, helping to boost the morale of the troops under her husband's command. Mrs. Washington continued her supportive role as the First Lady and was married to George Washington until the time of his death.

Dressing up as Martha Washington

Several beautiful Martha Washington costumes are available in women's and children's sizes, perfect for a historical pageant, play, Revolutionary War re-enactment, or just an unexpected Halloween costume. These colonial era inspired costumes come in various shades and textures of fabric, each styled with a voluminous hoop skirt and either satin or brocade trim. The three-quarter length sleeves end at just below the elbow and finish in a ruffled handkerchief style sleeve. Also included is a matching bonnet to be worn over a Ladies Colonial Wig or a Martha Washington wig styled with sausage curls. Top it off with a pair of glasses to lend a dignified touch to this First Lady ensemble.
