About Marie Antoinette

Born in 1755, the young Archduchess of Austria went on to take Paris by storm when she married Louis XVI and the pair became King and Queen of France. Known for her fashionable style in a period known for its excess, Marie Antoinette's personal motto was "Let them eat cake!" The French people, living in poverty at the time while the upper class and royals flitted about merrily, didn't take too kindly to this laissez faire attitude and Marie Antoinette went to the guillotine along with many other royals during the French Revolution.
