About Madam
The salutation "Madam" has many different connotations. Derived from the French, literally meaning "my lady," it is always used as a formal, respective address to a female irregardless of age, but usually referring to a mature woman. Sometimes, a fortune teller will often add "Madam" before her name to distinguish herself. Also, the female proprietor of a brothel is called a "madam."
Dressing up as a Madam
With the word applying to so many different things, dressing as a Madam gives you a number of costuming possibilities. Wear a Japanese kimono or geisha costume to transform yourself into Madam Butterfly, the title character of the tragic opera, or dress as a gypsy or a fortune teller carrying your very own crystal ball. Or, get gussied up with a feather boa, sexy evening gown, and cigarette holder to create your own "lady of the night" Madam costume. Carry a "little black book" as a great prop!
