Liqueur is a flavored type of liquor made with sugar added to the fermented beverage. Fruit, nuts, cream, and other flavorings are added, depending on the type of liqueur. They can be used in cooking or served before or with desert. Amaretto is a popular liqueur made from almonds and apricots. Other favorite brand name liqueurs include hazelnut flavored Frangelico (named for a Fra Angelico, a monk, which the bottle is shaped like) and coffee flavored Kahlua. American Schnapps are also a type of liqueur and come in sweet and sour varieties including peppermint and a number of fruits with peach and berry being some of the most popular.
