About Land of the Lost

Land of the Lost was a children's television series created by Sid and Marty Croft (the men behind {H.R. Puffenstuff} that began in 1974 and ran for two seasons. The show revolves around a family of explorers, the Marshalls -- father Rick and his daughter Holly and son Will -- who become trapped in an alternate universe populated by dinosaurs, primitive cavemen and human/lizard creatures known as Sleestaks. Although the family becomes accustomed to their new surroundings, befriending some of the cavemen and even making a pet out of Dopey, an herbivore dinosaur, the Marshalls try to find their way home again to their own dimension, searching for another portal to take them back.

In 2009, a Land of the Lost movie was made starring Will Ferrell. The plot of the film was a bit different from the original television concept with Ferrell as a single Rick Marshall (now a paleontologist) who finds himself in the "Land of the Lost" with a female love interest and stoner park ranger who accompany him through the portal.

Dressing up as Land of the Lost

One of the most mesmerising and original characters to come from the Land of the Lost are the creatures known as Sleestaks who terrorized the Marshall family on the original television series. The costume, based on the humanoid/insectoid/dinosaur-like entities features a one-piece green bodysuit imprinted all over with scales, and a segmented yellow piece in the center of it covering the chest and stomach. A character hood is also included with a similarly scaled pattern and large, black, bug-like eyes with a needlelike spike at the top of the head. Also included are hand and foot covers with webbed feet and clawlike hands.
