About King Triton

King Triton is a character from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The film was released in 1989. The film was based on a fairy tale also called the Little Mermaid; however in that story King Triton was not named. Instead he was called father through most of the tale. King Triton is the leader of the mermaid colony. He is typically overbearing when it comes to Ariel, especially with her penchant for going to the surface to view humans. The name King Triton came from mythology. King Triton is most often referred to as father in the tale, but he is also called the Sea King. In Greek Mythology Triton is the son of the sea god Poseidon; therefore Triton is a good name for the Sea King in the Little Mermaid. Neptune is another name for the sea god, but less used when referring to Poseidon. Triton in Disney is a widower with seven children, Ariel being the most precocious.

To dress as King Triton you will need a mermaid costume. As a merman King Triton costumes generally have a lower body like a fish.
