About Kimonos

The cultural attire of Japanese women, kimonos were highly decorated, robe-like garments that were worn in both ancient times, as well as today. There is a precise way in which the kimono is worn, with the left side overlapping the right. The kimono is traditionally secured with a wide belt called an "obi" which is tied in the back.

Although Japanese men also wore kimonos, they were tailored differently and were not nearly as elaborate or elegant as those worn by women. Dressing in seasonally appropriate kimonos was also an important part of dressing, with different patterns embroidered with gold thread on the brilliantly colored silks. Items like cherry blossoms or butterflies were worn in spring and varying tree branches and patterns were worn in autumn and winter.

Dressing up with a Kimono

Whether you're looking to dress as a beautiful geisha or for a Japanese-themed party accompanying a samurai, a beatiful kimono costume will fit you perfectly. Choose from several beautiful jewel-toned colors in sizes to fit ladies, girls', and plus sizes.

Accessorize your costume with a geisha wig or a long black wig that you can style on your own with kanzashi flowers and hair onaments like chopsticks, flowers, and jeweled combs. Add a delicate Japanese fan or Asian parasol or umbrella to your costume for a beautiful finishing touch!
