About Ken

Ken is a doll made by Mattel, Inc as a friend to Barbie. Ken is also known as Ken Carson. The character of Ken was created in 1961 by Mattel to accompany Barbie. Ken and Barbie were a set for several years before friends such as Allan Sherwood and Midge were introduced on the scene by Mattel. Ken was meant to be arm candy for Barbie the working girl. There is quite a story involving the two dolls to make them even more fun. Ken has always had the blonde hair and blue eyes no matter what uniform he’s been in. Ken has also had films to star in along with Barbie. Ken was not the only doll with Mattel to be established for Barbie’s boy toy. Blaine was a short offering on the market that almost wiped out Ken’s sales during that time. The entire world of Barbie and Ken dolls has advanced through many careers and changes to keep up with the times and several accessories have been offered such as cars, homes, clothing, and more for children to play with.

Like Barbie, Ken had many jobs. Almost any profession in the world such as astronaut, pilot, pool boy, Army, and more can be used to dress up like Ken. As a surfer image in a lot of the costumes you can choose shorts and a surf board for your costume party. The costumes available online will range in size from children to adults. Streetfighter Ken, Dr. Ken, Ninja Ken, and much more are also available. Prom Ken also exists for a costume.
