About Kangaroos

A member of the marsupial family -- mammals with "pockets" as a part of their physiology -- Kangaroos are native to the country/continent of Australia. They are even shown on Australia's coat of arms. Their name translates to "large foot." In addition to having an external "pouch" on their stomachs for carrying their young (called a "joey") or for food, kangaroos have powerful hind legs and can deliver powerful kicks with their large feet. Their hind legs and structure make them naturals for leaping long distances to cover a lot of ground. Famous Kangaroos include Kanga from Winnie the Pooh, the kindly mother to baby kangaroo, Roo.
