About Jungle Jane

Jungle Jane is a character from Tarzan films, comics, and books. Jane is an American woman who travels with her father to a remote island to study gorillas, at least that is the premise of Disney’s Tarzan film. Jane is a bit like a damsel in distress who needs to be rescued at the beginning of the tale even in the novels. She first appeared in the novels in 1912 in Tarzan of the Apes when she went to the African jungle. She and Tarzan have fallen in love in several of the renditions. The Disney flick had Jane remaining behind turning into Jungle Jane Tarzan’s companion. In the books Jane marries Tarzan and gives him a son.

Dressing up as Jungle Jane

For Disney Jane you would need a yellow dress with white petticoats beneath. A more traditional Jungle Jane is what Jane wears after spending time in the jungle with Tarzan. This Jungle Jane costume works for both children and adults. It is made of fake leopard print. The first part of the costume is the top, much like a swim suit top with sleeves. The lower section of the costume is a short skirt with a split down one leg. Jungle Jane is often shoeless, but you could as some Roman Sandals which would be in keeping with the Jungle look. You could also make a Jungle Jane costume into more of a cat look with ears and a tail.
