About Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar was a Roman military and political leader. It was Caesar who was most instrumental in transforming Rome from a Republic into an Empire. Between 60 BC and 50BC he was able to create a number of political alliances such as the 1st “Triumvirate.” Caesar was well known in his abilities to dominate the Gauls, as well as Roman politics. He was also instrumental in the Roman invasion of Britain. Rome was not united in the changes Caesar sought. He had numerous enemies like Marcus Brutus and was eventually assassinated on the Ides of March. It was the hope of the senate and Brutus that a normal republic could be restored. Unfortunately another civil war broke out and Gaius Octavianus, Caesar’s heir took over. Two years after Caesar’s assassination he was sanctified as a Roman deity.

Dressing up as Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar as the emperor of Rome requires a nicer uniform than your typical Roman Soldier. However, you can choose an early Roman Soldier look before Caesar became leader. No matter what you choose Julius Caesar will need a tunic to mid thigh, with armor covering it. The armor will be made of faux leather for the costume, with the “shredded” skirt. The top of the armor will sit on the shoulders and have Roman symbols, most specifically related to Caesar. A robe will hang off one shoulder and Roman sandals will be required. Romans also had a leafy headdress or wreath. Caesar can also wear the Roman helmet which was made of metal and the red brush. For costumes this would be made out of material.
