About Judges

If there's one person more powerful than a lawyer in a three-piece suit, it's the judge who presides over the case and decides the outcome of those who stand before him. Judges have existed from ancient society onward, however, the court circuit that we know today is almost a direct descendent from the British judicial system.

Although there are many levels of the courts here in the United States (Court of Common Pleas, Appelate, etc.), the highest court in the land is the Supreme Court, comprised of nine judges. Additionally, the judicial branch of government is one of the three sectors who help to ensure a system of checks and balances.

Famous Supreme Court justices included Antonin Scalia, Sandra Day O'Connor, and Clarence Thomas. Other famous judges in pop culture include Judge Lance Ito, who presided over the O.J. Simpson trial; Judge Judy; and Harold T. Stone of TV's "Night Court."

Dressing up as a Judge

"Here come da judge!" Your court shall rise when they see you sporting splendidly "supreme" judicial robes and "Your honor" won't be at stake with a "below the bar" costume. You can dress as a traditionally styled judge complete with a set of black judicial robes, a white, curled judge wig, and of course, a gavel to instill order in the court (which, probably doesn't include "ham on rye.") Wear a white shirt underneath or try on a white colonial jabot underneath for more of a commanding, British affect.

If that's not your cup of tea and you want to shake things up courtside, there is the sexy Judge Julie costume, a playfully shortened, low-cut, above-the-knee judicial robe with garters and stockings.
