About John Hancock

The man with the biggest ... uh... signature on the United States Declaration of Independence, John Hancock, was an American statesman, Governor of Massachussetts, and patriot during the American Revolutionary War. Born on January 23, 1737, Hancock was president of the Second Continental Congress. Due to the large, elegant signature he signed the Declaration of Independence with, his name became a synonym for signing one's name to paperwork. "Put your John Hancock here."

Dressing up as John Hancock

Perfect for historical re-enactments or patriotic parades, dress up as John Hancock with a variety of accessories. Put on a Patriot wig in dark brown and carry a feathered quill pen and replica of the Declaration of Independence on parchment paper. Dress in period style clothing with knee breeches and buckled shoes in a 18th Century style, worn with white nylon socks to look like hosiery from that time period. Hang out with fellow patriots John Adams and Ben Franklin to become a "revolutionary" force to be reckoned with!
