Hasidic Jews are a sect of the Orthodox Jewish faith that derives its name from the Hebrew words for "piety" and "loving kindness." Recognizable by their long beards, and long locks/tendrills of hair that extend from the sides of their faith, Hasidic Jews are forbidden by the Torah to cut their beards or locks. They may sport an otherwise short hairstyle, but are to leave their beard and surrounding facial hair untouched. Another tennant of their faith is to keep their head covered at all times with a hat. Hasidic Jews are frequently seen wearing either large fur hats (popular among the Eastern European Hasidic Jews), wide-brimmed black hats, and the traditional yarmulke. Rapper Matisyahu is a noted member of the Jewish Hasidic faith.
