About Jem

One of the "truly outrageous" cartoons of the '80s, Jem was the pink-haired rockstar altar-ego of Jerica Benton. Her band, The Holograms, were named for the holographic projection of her altar-ego thanks to specially designed star-shaped earrings invented by her late father and linked to a sophisticated (and anthropomorphic) computer named Synergy. In their spare time, Jem's altar-ego and the Holograms ran a home for orphaned girls. While the title characters were the "good girls" on the show, but in order to create conflict (and entertaining storylines), their rival band, The Misfits (led by the green-haired, zebra-print wearing hell-raiser, Pizzazz) caused all sorts of trouble for Jem and friends.

Dressing up as Jem

You may not have computerized earrings that can holographically project a rock star image onto your body, but you CAN dress up as '80s cartoon girl-band favorite Jem! The Jem costume comes with a pink, off-the-shoulder v-neck dress in vibrant pink with a glittery blue tube top to be worn underneath. Also included is a wide, jagged-shaped silver belt decked out with blue stars that slings low around the waist. Accessorize with glitter stockings or fishnets, a pair of star earrings in hot pink, and matching hot pink shoes. Top it all off with a dose of pink hairspray or a pink wig!

If you're going with a friend, they can wear The Misfits Jem costume. (You know you'd rather be Pizzazz! The bad girls ALWAYS have more fun!) Get some neon green hairspray, some garish makeup, and the costume fashioned with some of the all-time great staples of a solid '80s wardrobe: a neon pink, green, and zebra-print dress! Accessorize with a single neon green sock and cool shoes!
