About Jack Sparrow

Famously portrayed by actor Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean series of films, Captain Jack Sparrow was a likeable lout, perennialy plastered thanks to his trusty bottle of rum. Depp based his characterization of the eccentric pirate on rock star Keith Richards He relies mostly on his charm and wit to bail him out of precarious pirate predicaments as opposed to having to engage in combat. That said, Captain Jack will always pick up his sword and work rather well with it to defend his territory. In spite of his foppish, somewhat cowardly nature, Jack Sparrow is surprisingly loyal to his friends Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, actually rescuing the governor's daughter on many an occassion.

Jack Sparrow's enemies include the pirate Barbosa whose catankerous monkey and Davy Jones, the evil spirit of the sea and Captain of the Flying Dutchman who wants Sparrow aboard his ship for 100 years.

Dressing up as Jack Sparrow

Officially licensed Pirates of the Caribbean costumes make it easy to transform yourself into Captain Jack Sparrow. Start with a Jack Sparrow wig of synthetic black with long, dread-like braids adorned with beads and wide, attached headband/bandana. Put on a large, tricorn hat over the top of it in a deep brown faux leather style, just like Sparrow wore in the film. Attach a Jack Sparrow beard and goatee with beads and line your eyes with black, kohl eyeliner for the perfect finishing effect.

You can also find authentic Jack Sparrow costumes in adult and kids' sizes which include a white, billowy pirate shirt, a belt to be strapped across your chest as well as another for around your waist, and pirate breeches with a long, draped sash. Accessorize with a Pirate sword and even a toy monkey for a realistic look!
