About Jack in the Box

A Jack in the Box is a childhood toy that can be in many different styles. The older Jack in the Box was just a clown that would pop up. Now we have Simpsons, Winnie the Pooh, and other famous characters that will pop out of the toy. Some of the Jack in the Box toys are made from wood with internal springs, but most are a metal tin. It is said that the Jack in the Box began in the 13th century with Sir John Schorne. Apparently he tried to save the village of North Marston in Buckinghamshire by casting out the devil, which literally meant he boxed the devil. We are unsure what really happened, but that is the legend.

Dress up as Jack in the Box

There are several Jack in the Box ideas you can have. Simpsons, Harry Potter, Disney, and even Clowns make for a good start on the Jack in the Box. You still need to have an actual box, so half of you would be dressed as a clown and the rest would have a box around your legs and middle. Of course with a costume you tend to show your legs in order to work. Most Jack in the Box costumes are made of cloth to make it easier to work. They will have the little handle on the side, and you will fit inside the box, already popped up.
