Indiana Jones is actually Henry “Indiana” Walton Jones Jr. a fictional professor created in movies. Indiana Jones is an archaeologist and adventurer. When he is not off getting into to trouble he is at the college he works for teaching classes to mostly female students who find him absolutely handsome. The first time Indiana Jones graced the screen was in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Although Raiders of the Lost Ark was the first film it is actually the second in the series. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, made in 1984 is actually a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. The third film with Sean Connery is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which was set in 1938. The character has been such a strong presence that they made it into a television series as well as games. This year is to mark a fourth movie with a new character.

Dressing up as Indiana Jones

To dress up as Indiana Jones you might wish to know where the character idea came from. A comic book artist was used to create the flight jacket, which is leather, the fedora, and the whip. Each piece is related to someone in Steranko’s life, the artist. The jacket was in reference to George Lucas, the Fedora of Humphrey Bogart, and the whip from Zorro. To have a successful costume you must have all three parts, plus the tan pants and tan shirt reminiscent of archaeologists. He also carries a leather bag in most of the films to place artifacts in during his adventures. The leather jacket is the A-2 flight jacket and the bag is a Mark VII gas mask bag. The whip is 10 feet in length, so to truly dress up as Indiana Jones you would want accessories that mark these same features. Indiana has also had a World War I pistol in some of the movies. Other characters you may wish to dress up as include Henry Jones Senior, Marcus Brode, Willie Scott, Short Round, and Marion Ravenwood.
