About Indian Headdresses

Worn to denote status and rank, Indian Headdresses were worn by nearly every member of American Indian tribes. From the Cherokee Indians of North America to the ancient Aztecs of Mexico, each group of American Indians wore headdresses made of feathers, beads, metals and semi-precious gems, and sometimes even animal pelts as part of their cultural costume. Generally, the more elaborate the headdress, the higher the rank within the tribe. Although chiefs would wear long, or tall headdresses showing their status within the tribe, other lower ranking members would also adorn themselves with feathers or beads in varying patterns.

Dressing up with an Indian Headdress

Take on the look of an imposing Indian chief with a full, feathered Indian Headdress. Several authentic looking headdresses are available in a variety of colors ranging from teal to red and white in a number of lengths. Smaller, shorter headdresses are perfect for kids running around and playing cowboys and Indians, and other older chiefs or Indian maidens may wear long, full headdresses to compliment their costumes. Accessorize your Indian look with a pair of beaded moccassins or a beaded Indian choker.
