America carried on a love affair with a funny, fiesty redhead from 1951 to 1956 with "I Love Lucy," a show that featured flame-haired comedienne Lucille Ball and her real-life husband, Desi Arnaz. The show focused on the Ricardos, Lucy and Ricky, a housewife with aspirations of breaking into showbiz and her Cuban bandleader husband who cringed at his loving wife's lack of talent. Lucy was frequently aided in her schemes by her landlady and best friend, Ethel Mertz while Ethel's husband, the grumpy Fred Mertz usually sided with Ricky and shook his head at the ladies' madcap adventures.
