About Hula

In the Hawaiian islands, hula dancing is an ancient form of dance and expression. Although it may seem simplified in depictions on film and television, the hula is a complex art form with the arm and leg motions mimicking many aspects of nature on the islands, from the swaying of palm trees to crashing ocean waves. Depending on the situation, the hula could just be a fun, celebratory dance, or solemn and as a form of prayer in which a mistake and mis-step in the dance would bring forth bad luck if performed incorrectly.

Dressing up as a Hula

Bring some of the mystery of the ancient Hawaiian islands to your next costume party dressed as a hula dancer. Start with a hula wig with long, black waves and a flower in your hair like the gorgeous tresses of island women. Costumes featuring colorful leis and Grass skirts are available in sizes to fit men, women, kids, and plus sizes... And even pets!

For a more glamorous look, there are sarong-style costumes in bright, batik patterns to give an authentic look. Accessorize with shell jewelry, ankle bracelets and flower garland lei necklaces for a real Hawaiian look.
