About Hanukkah

Also known as "The Festival of Lights," Hanukkah is one of the major holidays in the Jewish faith. The winter holiday, which usually occurs around the same time as Christmas and Yule, commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple of Jerusalem during the 2nd Century, B.C.E. The miracle of the menorah, the 8-pronged candelabra that stands as one of the major symbols of Hanukkah, plays a big part in the holiday's story. Temple priests only had enough oil to keep the prayer candles lit for one night. Somehow, the oil stretched for 8 days, allowing the Temple to be fully re-dedicated.
