This all-American favorite actually derrives its name from the Hamburg steak, a favorite food of German immigrants. The portable patty is made from ground beef and is served on a bun. While it can be eaten plain or topped with cheese (cheeseburgers), or any combination of lettuce, tomato, pickles, raw or fried onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo, mushrooms, or even bacon, it's a versatille meal. The most popular hamburger chain of restaurants in the world is McDonalds, although Burger King and Wendy's come close, selling millions of burgers per year. One of the first hamburger chain vendors in the United States was White Castle, which was repopularized thanks to the Harold and Kumar movies.

Dressing up as a Hamburger

Dress up as an actual burger or as one of your favorite burger chain mascots. A Jimmy Buffett-themed Cheeseburger in Paradise costume features a Hawaiian shirt with a round pickle hat and a step-in, 3D cheeseburge to be worn around the waist over a pair of bermuda shorts. Or, put on a Hamburger Hat for some wild headgear.

Or, dress as the Burger King with a Burger King mask and costume -- or as his chief rival Ronald Mcdonald and any of his cartoonish cohorts, Grimmace and the Hamburglar. Ladies may also want to dress as Wendy, the daughter of Wendy's hamburger chain founder Dave Thomas with her distinctive red braids and cheerily freckled face.
