About Gun Slinger

A gun slinger is a gunfighter, a name given to men in the American Old West who had a reputation for being dangerous. The word gun slinger was coined in the 20th century. The title was given to such outlaws and Sheriffs as Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, and Wyatt Earp. Most often a gunslinger is an outlaw or robber murdering on the frontier. Yet, anyone working for the state or province that was good with a gun could be considered a gunfighter in the old west. A gun slinger was a person who could react to a gun fight where one draws a pistol and the other reacts to it. The idea was that the person left standing could eventually get a reputation for being good with a gun. The movies portray gun slingers with more drama than the actuality. Occasionally like the movies show two top gun slingers would have a confrontation to see who would come out as the best.

Dressing up as Gun Slinger

There are often two types of costumes when it comes to gun slingers. The first costume is a bounty hunter or lawman. The outfit for this requires black pants, a white shirt, black vest, and black duster. A gun holster on the hips, with a fake riffle, and cowboy hat would almost complete the look. The last apparel needed is a pair of black boots with spurs. You can also add a star for the old west sheriff look. The second gun slinger outfit is a cowboy or outlaw. For this costume you would need jeans, chaps, a cowboy shirt, vest, cowboy hat, and boots. A gun belt and even a riffle are needed. Female gun slingers can look like the male costumes or be more sexy with short skirts, and tight vests.
