In the DC Comics universe, several humans -- and aliens -- have taken up the mantle of the Green Lantern. The Green Lantern (whomever he or she may be) possesses a ring of power which gives them control over the physical universe. Multiple persons have held the title of Green Lantern over time, comprising an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. Oddly enough, the only thing that stops the flow of a Green Lantern's power is... The color yellow. Some of the most well-known Earthlings who have held the title of Green Lantern are Hal Jordan, John Stewart (not the host of the Daily Show!), Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner. The character was created in the 1950s and has been a staple of the Justice League as well as the Justice Society ever since.
