About Granny

There are several types of Grannies when it comes to films, books, and just your own Granny. Granny is a form of Grandma when considering the word origin. Typically a child has trouble with grandma, when they first start to speak, which is where the “granny” comes in. It is easier for a child to say. Of course media perpetuates the word such as in Little Red Riding Hood. Instead of the little girl calling out “grandma” she sometimes says granny. The most popular costume is the Granny Wolf.

Dressing up as Granny

Before you can dress up as Granny you have to decide which connotation you wish to choose. You can be Granny from the song Grandma Got Run over by the Reindeer, your own idea of Granny, or Granny Wolf. To be the Little Red Riding Hood Granny you will need a wolf costume for adult or children sizes. Then you will need the nightgown and night bonnet with a basket and round glasses to complete the picture. For the normal Granny style you have the Old Maid which has a white wig, round glasses, and a colonial style dress.
