About Gothic Mummy

A gothic mummy is just a revamping of an old idea for costumes, though typically with a slightly different look. A mummy is actually a real corpse that has been mummified to preserve the skin. Some of the organs are even left in the body, but the brains and some of the organs are traditionally removed. Archaeologists are unsure whether mummification was first found accidentally or if Egyptians worked hard to uncover a process that would work. What we do know is that mummification occurs when certain chemicals are added to the body. Mummification can also occur with low humidity, extreme coldness or due to a lack of air. The oldest mummy is 6,000 years old and it is a decapitated head. This head was found in 1936. Animals in Egyptian culture were also mummified like cats. A Pharaoh would actually be buried with their animals and most important possessions. This is one reason the tombs of Egypt have been ransacked by criminals and those seeking treasure. The idea of the Mummy and legends of mummy curses have inspired many a film, including the 1999 Mummy with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weiz. There were two sequels to the 1999 movie, as well.

Dressing up as Gothic Mummy

Mummy’s can be really cool, if you divest yourself of the traditional wrappings found with most mummy costumes. The gothic mummy adds spice to the life of your costume. Depending on which costume you choose you could obtain a neck wrap with “torn” dress that has an attached petticoat and corset. To add to the look you might want to grab some of your favorite Goth jewelery, do up your hair, and then put on your knee high black platform boots. If you’re feeling charitable grab a mummy child to come with you in the traditional wrapping!
