About Goddess Athena

The Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena gave her name to the city of Athens, the mecca of culture and learning of the Ancient World. A warrior goddess and one of the three virgin goddesses of the Greek pantheon, Athena bears the distinction of being birthed by her father, Zeus, the king of the gods. She sprang fully formed from his head. Her symbols are the owl, the olive branch, and her shield, which was given as a gift to the demi-god and hero Perseus to slay the Gorgon Medusa by showing the Gorgon's reflection to her in the mirror.
