Go Go Dancers got their start in the 1960s when "The Twist" was the most popular dance craze sweeping the country. Girls would hop up on tables with the mini-skirts and tall boots that were the fashion of the day and dance. Patrons ate this up! Savvy club owners decided to hire these dancing girls for patrons to watch and the modern go go dancer was born. "Go Go Dancing" later became synonymous with the art of striptease, although being a paid dancer on a stage is kind of similar, they're not neccessarily the same thing.
