About German
While we may think of German as being derived from the country Germany it is actually more complicated than that. The ancestry of the German ethnic group actually began in Scandinavia. It was not until the migration period that the Germans began to move further into Europe. In fact the Germanic people began post medieval times. During the sixteenth century the German people were known as Almain or Dutch. The Roman Empire had a great deal of influence on the Germanic people. Austria and other Scandinavian countries were known as the land for the Germanians by the Roman Empire. The German people have had a varied history and today we mostly think about the costumes of Hansel and Gretel as well as the German police.
