About Frankenstein

One of the most popular movie monsters of all time, Frankenstein's Monster is the creation of Dr. Viktor Von Frankenstein, a patchwork of parts from dead men brought back to life in an experiment. Although Frankenstein is most recognized from his characterization by actor Borris Karloff in the 1931 film, he was REALLY created by author Mary Shelley in her Gothic novel "Frankenstein: or The Modern Prometheus." Frankenstein has been depicted on screen and on stage since Mary Shelley wrote her novel in 1818. A fun fact, Karloff was not credited for his portrayal in the film. Instead the role of "The Creature" was credited with a series of question marks, a humorous nod by director James Whale to add an air of mystery to the monster.

Dressing up as Frankenstein

Sometimes frightening, sometimes funny, Frankenstein has versatility as a costuming choice. Opt for the classic Borris Karloff Frankenstein mask in classic black-and-white to give a celluloid impression of one of Universal's most uhh... beloved?... creatures. Put on a pair of Frankenstein hands, marled with scars and stitches in black-and-white. Add some height to your presence with a pair of bulky, platform Frankenstein boots. No matter what you wear for a costume, put on a pair of neck bolts to complete your look!
